Frequently Asked Questions
What will our first session together look like?
In our first session, we talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any past experiences you’ve had with therapy. It’s also a chance for you to get a feel for how I work and decide if this feels like a good fit. I will ask some questions to better understanding what you’re needing and explore how I can best support you!
How do I know if this is the “right fit?”
Research shows that the relationship between therapist and client is one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes in therapy. It's important that you feel safe, understood, and supported. In our first few sessions, notice how it feels to talk with me—if you feel comfortable being yourself and if the approach resonates with you. Therapy works best when there's trust and collaboration, and I'm always open to feedback to ensure this feels like a good fit. If it doesn’t, I’ll support you in finding someone who may be a better match.
How long are sessions and how often will we meet?
Sessions are 50 minutes long and are $150 per session. Most clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum and consistency, but we can adjust the frequency based on your needs and goals.
Do you take insurance or offer sliding scale rates?
I am not in-network with insurance, but I can provide a superbill that you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots based on financial need—feel free to reach out to see if one is available.
What is EMDR and how does it work?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the approaches I use to help process trauma and distressing experiences. It uses bilateral stimulation—like eye movements or tapping—to help the brain reprocess stuck memories so they feel less overwhelming. If it feels like the right fit and you’re open to it, we can explore EMDR as part of your therapy work.
Can EMDR help even if I don’t have “big trauma?”
Yes. EMDR is effective for both "big T" traumas (like abuse or accidents) and "small t" traumas (like repeated invalidation, shame, or rejection). If something still affects you emotionally, it’s worth exploring.
What is “parts work” and how is it used in therapy?
Parts work is a way of exploring the different inner voices or “parts” of you—like the inner critic, the people-pleaser, or the protective part that shuts down. These parts often developed to help you cope, even if their strategies no longer serve you.
I integrate parts work alongside approaches like EMDR, CBT, ACT, and DBT to help you build self-awareness, reduce inner conflict, and develop more compassion for yourself. Together, we’ll work toward helping these parts feel heard, supported, and more integrated.
What are CBT, ACT, and DBT?
I use tools from CBT, ACT, and DBT to support you in different ways:
CBT helps us notice and gently shift unhelpful thoughts and behaviors.
ACT encourages accepting tough emotions while focusing on what really matters to you.
DBT offers practical skills for handling strong emotions, improving relationships, and coping with stress.
I pull from these approaches in a way that fits you—not a one-size-fits-all “change your thinking” approach. We’ll explore your thoughts and feelings with curiosity and kindness, looking for more balanced and helpful ways to relate to yourself and your experiences. Together, we’ll build skills that feel right for you and support your growth in a compassionate, personalized way.
What kinds of issues do you work with?
I specialize in helping clients with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship patterns, and self-esteem. I also work with people navigating life transitions, burnout, and family dynamics.
Do I have to talk about everything right away?
No. We’ll go at your pace. You are always in control of what you share and when. Safety and trust are essential parts of the process.
How long will therapy take?
It depends on your goals and what you’re working through. Some people feel relief after a few sessions, while others may want to explore deeper healing over a longer period. We’ll check in regularly to see what’s working for you.
